Puzzle Corner

Last month we passed along a parlor game of definitions: define a word by answering a question. We gave a few examples then invited readers to submit their best efforts to three questions. Read on to see some of our favorite responses from readers ... and to get your next assignment.

Do you know what risk is?

I'll take a chance.
I'll take a stab at this one.
I think I do, but I'm not going to chance being wrong.
I'll hazard a guess.
To respond would be hazardous.
I'll bet you a thousand dollars I do!

Do you know what wimpiness is?

I'm afraid to say.
I'll pass on this one.
I think I do but I'm afraid I might be wrong.
I'm afraid to think.
Yes, but I'm scared to tell you.
Well gee, I guess, maybe, but I'm not sure.
Don't be angry with me, but I think I might know.
Maybe I should ask my mom if I should answer?

Do you know what repetition is?

Let me say it again.
Huh? What'd you say? Huh?
Yes I do, Yes I do, Yes I do.
Didn't you just ask me this?
Do YOU know what repetition is?
What was that again?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A thousand times, yes!

In the mood for a puzzle? This month we encourage you to think up a word-oriented April Fools' prank. Send your favorite stories to comments@word.com, and we'll try to include a few in a later issue of Word.com.
