April 2006Looking Back: 1986April 1986 was a deadly month. A bomb exploded on a TWA flight from Rome to Athens, killing four people. U.S. planes bombed Libya. And the worst nuclear accident ever occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in northern Ukraine. The fallout from the Chernobyl accident included death, poisoning, and, by some accounts, a lessening of Soviet secrecy. In addition, the list includes a number of words that vividly evoke the world of twenty years ago.
