April 2007Happy Birthday: 1860The Pony Express began its short but memorable run on April 3, 1860. Over the next 18 months, dozens of men — ranging in age from 11 to mid-forties — rode horses over the 2,000-mile route to deliver the mail. The business failed, but it secured a place in history. More than 240 words first entered print the same year the Pony Express began its brief and romanticized life. We pulled out two dozen, but it's easy enough to create a complete list.
